Rising Sea Levels Are a Major Looming Crisis

It's all too easy to dismiss global warming as a hoax, but this is quite real and dire:
Scientists will warn this week that rising sea levels, triggered by global warming, pose a far greater danger to the planet than previously estimated. There is now a major risk that many coastal areas around the world will be inundated by the end of the century because Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are melting faster than previously estimated.

An incredible 31,072 Americans with university degrees in science, including 9,021 Ph.D.s, have signed a petition that flatly denies Al Gore’s claims that human-caused global warming is a settled scientific fact.

How about everybody calling a truce on climate change and just agree to live clean. Both sides are junk science, and society is drowning in junk science, Big Polluter, Big Pharmy, Big Auto, Big God, all of them.

What a waste of good ENERGY to have to maintain this acrimonious state as, for example, the 31,000 scientists. It is all ego, "I am right, who gives a shit about the issue."

Now, the fossil fuel source (coal and oil) will play out, either literally or as a natural evolution directed towards good sense and a move towards Sun-Based energy. Oil will be a good lubricant, and beats killing whales.

What about today? Forget 100 years hence. A nasty black cloud continuously hangs over downtown of this city due to the 12 lanes of freeway going through it. Is this quality of life? Will there not be an epidemic of respiratory diseases among the downtown people? No one can say no! On so many things, there is no precedent.

What about the arsch lock that runs his damn diesel pickup next to the coffee shop veranda on a beautiful spring day, for 30 minute cell fone affair?

Trees in the Black Forest are puny and diseased from so much pollution.

Clean is better. Today!

Newsmax? Are you serious? That's right-wing propaganda.

I did a little research on that GW petition. None of the signers that I looked up were climate scientists, many were MDs. I strongly suspect that they signed out of political bias, rather than any sense of the science.

I have some older thoughts on this matter here.

Basically I have done some reading on this subject and I really don't find the "global warming is a giant conspiracy" viewpoint very convincing. Plus, people who have no credibility such as Republicans and oil company executives, are the strongest deniers of man-driven GW.

The simple facts are that CO2 is a green house gas, CO2 levels are increasing, global temps are increasing, ice is melting, mankind's actions can definitely affect the planet. Thus I think it is reasonable to curtail CO2 emissions to some degree. As Engineer said above -- let's live more cleanly. I don't see any problem with that.

The world's most reputable labs are very serious about the threat of human destruction to the earth through carefree use of fossil fuels.

Much lower sea level rise - even a foot - will cause huge problems by salinifying fresh water aquifers in coastal areas.

Do you hear a "baa, baa, baa" out there as they change their clocks? This is a most outrageous scam, completely driven by big bis to promote consumerism (one more hour to shop). But information is available, if any sheep cares, that tells us that such and such large number of energy is saved. This is barf. It is just the opposite, and a criminal waste of energy. You push folks into having to use electric light for one more hour in the dark in the morning. The evening is no issue, a tube is a tube and traffic is in daylight either way. It does promote the sales of coffee because you damn sure are going to need come extra.

But without a phd in physics, how can they assess that disinfo? So it is so easy.

The other one you have to like is the junk claim that such and such volcano produces more bad hydro carbons with one eruption than all the coal and cars put together.

120,000,000 dwellings, a bucket of coal per day to heat or cool. Very conservative.

120,000,000 vehicles. One gallon per day. Very conservative.

This is 50 billion buckets of coal and 50 billion gallons of gas a year. (Mind boggling.) So the volcano blows once every 20 years.
A trillion buckets of coal and a trillion gallons of gas.

Some volcano.
