But oh, what are the odds that Congress will do anything about this? It's clear, seeing the officials quoted in the article downplay the role of speculators, that the PTB WANT high oil prices-- for many reasons.

And certainly many on the left like high gas prices, as it forces people to conserve and use more "green" methods of transportation-- an argument to which I am somewhat sympathetic.

But mostly I feel as if the high price of gas is some sort of sick experiment being forced on us by the PTB, to see how society reacts.
