Has A 30 Story Building EVER Disintegrated As Quickly as the Top 30 Stories of WTC2 Did?

Has anyone ever used an untested new technology (such as thermite for building demolition) to break a world record in a given field 3 times in a single day (the "official" world record for building demo is 30 floors, about 1/4 the height of either WTC tower) and had it work perfectly each time?

I personally think thermite was only part of how they did it. They probably used a combination of devices, possibly some of them secret cutting-edge technology.

So your answer to my question would be "no, no one has ever used a completely untested technology to break the world record for building demolition three times in one day and had it work perfectly each time", then?

Whoever said they used complete untested technology?

My guess is they did an overkill demolition on 9/11-- they used far more material than was required in order to make sure it worked.

SOT, what are you getting at here? Are you implying that perhaps the reason the top 30 or so floors of WTC2 disintegrated so quickly is because the untested new technology of thermite was used? Clarification?

I am sure most people know this, but thermite is not an explosive (as far as I know). It will not explode like a firecracker or a cherry bomb. Thermite is more accurately described as an incendiary.

From my understanding, a potential use for thermite (thermate) at the WTC would be for cutting the massive core columns in both towers prior to collapse.

There isn't much which is untested about thermite - the chemical properties of the reaction have been well known for over 100 years and thermite has a variety of commercial applications, one of which is welding.

I think the important point to take away from the demolitions of both towers is most if not all (~99%) of the concrete was pulverized into very fine power/dust. As it has been said before, the towers basically turned to dust in mid air.

On another note, thermite was questioned today about his role in the collapse of the WTC but he declined to comment and pled the fifth.

So that's a definate "No, no one has ever used a completely untested technology to break the world record for building demolition three times in one day and had it work perfectly each time", is it?

You'd think they'd be able to find some evidence of that material then, no?

And you do realize that the top 30 stories fell as a section, correct? I don't see any "disintigration"...

incorrect. and to say that you don't see any disintegration means you're not looking at it very closely then. one can see the block of 30 floors tilt over to one side and then dissolve into powder along with the rest of the tower. not one section of either tower fell as a section to the ground.

Thanks J.

If you watch the video, the top 30 stories start to tip as a chunk, then after three seconds, this huge section of building turns into dust.

It's obvious-- and this behaviour defies physics unless you invoke demolition.
